Former HQ of USSR's KGB! May 31, 2017
I'd rate this as a must-see. Riga, Old Town Riga at least is a tapestry of colourful buildings, cobblestone roads and vibrant colours come to life in the most homogeneous way. In short, a feast for the eyes, a very positive experience.

In stark contrast lies the Corner House - a building that was former HQ of the KGB when the then USSR had invaded Latvia. The corner house is where opponents to the occupation regime were questioned, sequestered, and at times, killed.

Today, the building has opened its doors to the public and it was heartwarming to not only see tourists, but also today's Latvian generation visit and learn more.

Whilst the main floor consists of a bunch of hanging displays, the real treat is taking their self guided tour. This walks you through the process of how people were brought in, where they were questioned, the cells, there's even a kitchen at the basement where food was cooked.

What I also liked was that the guide would do his best to let us "experience" it first hand. For example, for a certain portion of the tour, he made us sit in one of the larger damp prison cells so we can "feel" it, the way prisoners did back then.

Highly recommended! Eye-opening, and definitely made me appreciate today's colourful Latvia even more, given all it took to rebuild both the country and the morale.
