Corner Cafe Centralia Reviews
Great Food at the Corner Jun 02, 2010
The Corner Cafe is by far the most popular place to grab a bite to eat in Centralia. Even though there is a large seating area, it is not uncommon for there to be a wait at noon-time or prime dinner time. This is truly a testament to just how GOOD this place is.
There is a large menu -- breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus daily specials. The menu has a great selection of burgers, fried chicken and one of my favorite dishes, the gyro. They also have a fantastic reuben. But, the absolute best thing is their salads: chef or grilled, fried or blackened (my personal favorite) chicken. The portion size is huge -- even 1/2 salad is more than enough. The salads are complete with tomato, onion, green pepper, cucumber, boiled egg, and the best shredded lettuce ever that makes the salad amazing. I crave these when I go for a period of time without having one.
The daily specials, the "Play of the Day" include options like roast beef manhattans, taco salads, and chicken and dumplings.
And DO NOT forego dessert -- you have room (despite the massive portions). The Corner Cafe has the most delicious pies in town, dare I say in all of Southern Illinois. Usually there is the choice of 6-9 pies (chocolate, coconut, peanut butter, apple, cherry etc, and if you're lucky, banana or cherry cream). Sometimes, I order pie before my meal because it is likely they will sell out.
The Corner Cafe is commonly referred to as the 'Cardinal Place'. The restaurant is overtly decorated with St. Louis Cardinals memorabilia, and the waitresses wear Cardinal jerseys or t-shirts. (Cubs fans are welcome, just put your blinders on. This place is too awesome to miss on that account alone.)
The Corner Cafe is located south of town, on the one-way Route 51 heading out of town, conveniently at the corner of Calumet and Poplar.
