We've been there in September 2008 and it was our first time in Crete.
We were welcomed heartily by the owner and her son. Seems they have already awaited us (our flight was delayed) because they asked if we got lost on the way from the airport to Matala which is about a 1 1/2 hours drive.
Our room was not big but very clean aswell as the bathroom. There was enough space for our clothings and stuff. You have to pay an extra fee for the aircondition but in September you don't need it anymore. Nights are still warm but not as hot that you can't sleep.
They have a small pool there and it's good enough to cool you down after a hot day's hike.

The hotel is situated on the outskirts of Matala therefore it's very quiet there. It's not a hotel to party ;) It's about a 1 km walk to the village of Matala, the beach and the caves. It's a small hotel with about 25 rooms with a little balcony or terrace in front of each room.

Usually you have to check out until 12 pm. Our flight was at night and we asked the owner if we could leave our stuff at the reception which was ok for her. Additional to that she invited us to use her shower before we leave if we wanna spend our last day at the beach. I was very surprised. I never had such an offer before and we were happy we could use it.

Thanks for your hospitality Elena :)

Seems like a cozy place to stay...Jutta. Being a family owned accommodation...it is often a more friendly and personal service that is provided. Nice review and photo's.

Since our flight has been delayed it was already 4 p. m. when we landed in Iraklio. The airport isn't huge but incredibly crowded and chaotic. After we've picked up our baggage we went to the Sixt booth to retrieve the car we've rented. We got some …Hotel Coral in Matala. Since it was hot - even in the evening - we decided to have a bath in the pool. After refreshing ourselves we wandered around the village for first impressions and a nice restaurant for dinner. We didn't had a clue about… Crete Day 1
