Copthorne Tara Feb 09, 2011
The Tara Copthorne is a large modern hotel in Kensington. It is easy to find, because most of Kensington is very pretty and the Tara is in a big ugly building. Inside, however, it is a nice hotel. The reception staff are efficient – this makes a nice change because so many hotels you stand for ages whilst they fiddle with the card swipers. The area around the hotel is quiet, apart from a railway line, and the soundproofing is pretty good. This means you can sleep properly. It’s very close to Kensington High Street tube station and a short walk from Earl’s Court. Breakfast was nice and the coffee came promptly.

The décor in the room is a little old fashioned, and if you care about that sort of thing you’ll be disappointed. Personally, I am there to sleep, not admire the curtains, so I thought it was fine. Similarly, the bathroom was a little scruffy and scuffed, amd the bath was slightly grey, but actually, it wasn’t dirty. So that’s fine.

I’d be happy to stay again.

A secret hideaway Jan 11, 2011
In a prime location, the Copthorne Tara is a 5-minute walk from Kensington High Street Tube Station. Hidden away from the busy streets of Kensington, it is around the back of the station in a corner.

With large, clean bedrooms, it offers quality and value. There is an in-house restaurant offering Cantonese food, or a bar which provides reasonably priced snacks. If you are looking for something a bit different, head up onto Kensington High Street where you will find numerous places to eat and grab a drink, as well as plenty of shops.

Carry on walking past the tube station and around the corner, you are only 5-minutes away on foot to Kensington Gardens and the Royal Albert Hall. Carry on walking for another 15 minutes and you will find yourself in Hyde Park.

The Copthorne has a guest carpark; at an extra cost, a consierge, and a small shop for essentials and souveniers. The staff are friendly, and as an added, unusal but pleasant surprise, it is one of very few hotels in London which offers smoking rooms to guests!

Good hotel in good location Jun 12, 2011
The Copthorne Tara in Kensington is in a great location. Tucked away off a main road it is a 2 minute walk from Kensington High Street underground station. Earls Court is not too far away.

The hotel has a good bar and restaurant. There is a really nice continental breakfast buffet.

The rooms are of high quality, even if they are a bit small. Some are a bit dated but the beds are extremely comfortable.

Not a very good place to stay Aug 01, 2010
Strengths: Hardly any

Weaknesses: Not a central location, Not close to tube station, Expensive compared to the services offered

The Copthorne Tara Hotel is a part of the Millennium Group of Hotels located in South Kensington London. Getting to this hotel is a pain. You will need to take the Piccadilly line from the airport and it will take you between 50 minutes to an hour to reach the South Kensington station from Heathrow. After alighting at the station you have a 15 minute walk through a great but lonely neighborhood to reach the Copthorne Tara Hotel. You will be in trouble if you have heavy suitcases and will be forced to take a cab which will be an added cost as well.

The primary drawback about this hotel is the not so central location and you will need to take a tube and keep doing the 15 minute walk to the Tube station to reach any of the touristy areas such as South Bank, London Eye, any of the Museums, Central Business District, and Buckingham Palace etc.

I booked at the Copthorne Tara hotel in Aug’07 through RCI. I stayed there for 1 night and paid Rs.6000. After taking a look at the average room, I felt that this hotel is very overpriced for the services offered. The room was not very well done up for a 4 Star Hotel. It was not well maintained and the bathroom was not clean as well. The bed made creaky noises every time you rolled over and the view from the hotel room on the 6th floor was very pathetic as well. There was a problem with the TV and it had limited channels as well. The Wi-Fi was not working and there was no place to access the Internet – so all in all I hated the experience completely.

There are pros and cons to this hotel; I'll start with the biggest "pro", which is the location. It's right in Kensington, which is fantastic, and right around the corner from the tube station, which is even better.

The con is that while the lobby is ok, the rooms are slightly less so; and certainly for what you pay. The problem is, London is not really known for it's hotels EVER, so I've yet to have a really great hotel there; so you have to change your standards a little when dealing in London.

The room sizes are ok, but they are dim and nothing to write home about. Bathrooms are kind of small and very utilitarian.

If you are given a room on the side of the hotel, you may be up against the train tracks, and may get some noise from that (we did).

So bottom line? If you get a fantastic deal on this, grab it, it's a great location. But don't expect what they claim on the website, unless they've done some sort of major overhaul since my visit...
