A friend of mine works in Nyon, so I spent the morning wandering around the town. Really, you don't need much more than that to see Nyon. I walked to the town center from UEFA/the sport complex area which, not surprisingly, was not that far away, nor was it very large. Basically the one thing to see in the city if the five-story white castle, though it's not terribly large. I waited until 10 am for it to open to take the tour. The castle is built up from the lake on a hill (then again, what in Switzerland isn't built on a hill/mountain) so the view was absolutely great. The tour of the castle is free, and that's perhaps a good thing -- it's not terribly exciting. It has almost always been a public-use castle -- including the jail through 1980. The prison cells were still there, but mostly there is stuff from Nyon, or that had been made in Nyon, in the castle, most of which was porcelain. Some of the signs are in English and French, but there are definitely a lot of older info plaques that are only in French.

Also, take the stairs to the very top -- basically, the attic of the tower which is, like most people's attics, the place where random things go and never leave. And the oddest part -- the museum even admits this, too, on one of the three English signs up there -- that the room just stores the castle's old random crap!

There's a wine growers' cellar, but that's only on the weekend (Fri-Sun).

There's also a basilica near the chateau, but I didn't see it. Some of the buildings are cute, but really, the view of the lake and city from the castle is worth going. and since the museum is free, there's no reason not to go if you happen to find yourself in Nyon
