Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge Copper Center Reviews
Staying in the wilderness in a very comfortable way Sep 07, 2011
The Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge, CRPWL, was for me the lodge I always wanted to stay in. And it did not disappoint me!
CRPWL is owned by Princess Lodges, which is a division of Princess Cruises. The lodge is basically meant for the cruise people who want to stay ashore for some days. It is, however, also possible, like I did, to reserve a room in the lodge if you are just driving. I suppose the lodge offers all kind of comfort that cruise people are used to, combined with the efficiency of the cruise line. This worked great. CRPWL made my stay very relaxed.
The lodge is located at a beautiful location on a hill along the border of Wrangell - St. Elias National Park. It is surrounded by nature and has smashing views on Mount Drum and Mount Wrangell, the tundra in front of these giants, and the valley of the Copper River.
The lodge offers free parking, free WiFi (only signal in the lobby and restaurant), a very good restaurant, gift shop, possibilities of organized tours, and a great lobby which offers great views on the mountains and has a huge fireplace.
The rooms are basic hotel rooms, but clean, nicely decorated and comfortable. The hotel grounds offer some information panels on the park, great views, a fish wheel on display, a sun terrace, and even several small hike trails. For those with own transportation, the little village of Copper Center is close. As well as the Wrangell - St. Elias Visitors Center. Day trips can be made to Chitina.
In short: a great way to spend some time in (or close to) the wilderness! And all of this for a rate that would even be called a good deal in the much cheaper lower 48 states. So, HIGHLY recommended!
