Best of New Zealand in a cone Dec 31, 2008
Just walking past the hole in the wall that is Copenhagen Cones is almost impossible as the smell of freshly baked waffle cones floats out across the busy footpath.
On any summer holiday day, that sees the sun beating down and melting the tar of Adams Ave, you will see dozens of half naked beachgoers lined up outside the door ready to cool themselves from the inside out with one of these sweet and colourful assemblies.
A single scoop just never seems enough and the variety of flavours on display tempt even those on strict diets to go for the whole array of tasty scoops and then top it all off with nuts, cream and a splash of fruit or chocolate topping.
Once you get back out into the sun you're in trouble though. The ice cream begins to melt faster than you can lick so unless you planned ahead and got a plastic dished Sundae, the bigger your eyes were, the more threatening the mess left in your hand!
I never have a problem gulping down creamy New Zealand ice cream though and at about $5 for a triple scoop with all the trimmings I don't mind lining up for a few minutes and ending up with sticky fingers.
All the more reason to head back to the beach for a dip -not chocolate this time.
