Classic and Elegant historic hotel in Rio Sep 06, 2014
I asked my best friend in Brazil where I should stay in Rio and without hesitation he said, "You have to stay at the Copacabana Palace, man" Haha, easy for him to say but this hotel is really very expensive. But, he persuaded me more by saying that dignitaries go there including Lady Diana and US Presidents (and even Justin Bieber), and that if you do not stay at the Palace, you are nothing. LOL...Oh well, I guess I decided I would give it a shot and so I booked the Copacabana Palace.

Registration was professional and easy although the person in front of me took a while because he was having a debate about "charges" on his bill - haha, that was a warning for me not to take too much from the minibar, haha...

What I noticed in this hotel was the elegance of it and how people seemed to know that THEY ARE at the famed Copacabana Palace.

I went to my room and immediately noted the high wooden door, and on opening the room, I appreciated the high ceiling and comfy-looking bed. I looked for the television, and there was NONE. What, I paid over $600 a night and no TV??? LOL, I finally found out that there was button I had to push and the TV popped up from the bottom of my bed :) Sweet :)

The bathroom was exquisite and I like the plush robes and the slippers were very nice, Havana-like ones :) Brazil is rich and famous for its granite, and this was evidenced by granite everywhere...

I saw the pool action in this hotel and also the very busy restuarant beside it, but I was in Brazil and not supposed to be in the pool. I had to be at the beach! So, I went outside and when you have the robe and the towel (and the slippers), you are immediately branded as a "Copacabana Palace guest" and only you are allowed onto the dark blue seats across the prized beach area right in front of the hotel...

One of the hotel staff immediately asked if I needed anything so I asked for drinks and also that he take pictures of me (with my simple digital camera of course. haha) to prove that I stayed in this hotel, hahaha....

Overall, a good experience if you want to brush with the rich and famous and feel the elegance of Rio :) However, I have also stayed in many other hotels in Brazil during my other visits and they are okay as well. So, depending on your budget, just enjoy Rio, not the hotel :)
