Coorg Overview

Coorg, also known locally as Kodagu, is a district in the South Indian state of Karnataka. Even though Coorg is a part of Karnataka, its culture, cuisine and environment is unique and quite apart from anything else in the state.
The capital of the district is the town of Madikeri.
The best way to enter Coorg is to drive down or take a bus from Bangalore via Mysore.
Situated on the Western Ghats, Coorg has a pleasant climate all year round and is famous for its coffee plantations. Honey from Coorg is also very popular.
The cuisine of Coorg is very unique and includes a lot of pork and a lot of spices! Sea food is also very commonly available in this region. Fruit based wines are also a speciality of Coorg.
Places of interest include the main market area in Madikeri, the old fort, the Maharaja's seat - which overlooks an awe inspiring view of the hills, Talacauvery - which is the origin location of the river Cauvery, Abbey Falls, Nisaragadhama Island and the Tibetan settlement of Bylakuppe.
The best way to travel around Coorg is to rent a bike.
