Coopers beer
Coopers beer Reviews
Dec 05, 2007
Coopers beer is a South Australian tradition. It was started in 1862 by Thomas Cooper and is still owned by the Cooper family. Inside South Australia they are on tap in every bar, with Coopers Pale probably being the definitive South Australian beer. They are fairly commonly available bottled around Australia, and a few places overseas even import them (the US recently made a deal to import them via Budweiser - an import deal only, Coopers is quality beer, unlike Bud).
Coopers beers are also named by the colours of their labels - the most common are green (Pale, the standard on top), red (Sparkling, n English-style golden ale with a higher alcohol content), and brown (Dark, malty beer). A characteristic of Coopers beers is the cloudy appearance and sediment left in the bottom of the beer (due to fermentation in the bottle). They are designed to be served ice-cold, preferably in pre-chilled glasses. The proper way to drink it is to invert the bottle (never shake) once, then open it and drink before it has time to settle - slow drinkers tend to leave the dregs behind and order another.
