Conrad Miami Reviews
Conrad in Miami Apr 10, 2011
Placed inside large office building, hotel is not visible for bystander or anyone passing by it. Building actually has a great façade, very modern, slick and attractive, but entrance to the hotel is everything but that… It used to be that expensive/good hotels have grand entrances, followed with great lobby and eye catcher details, and I really miss those beauties. With entrance located more or less in garage, Conrad is obviously made for people that do not have time to enjoy in those details and atmosphere, but for people that live for their business and work. Couple of elevators takes you to the floor where hotel starts and then you have to switch them to get to your hotel floor.
Rooms are well arranged, and all necessary amenities are there at your disposal. Service is flawless and 24 hours, just what you would expect from this place. I was always wondering how every hostel (even in the most remote place in the world) has free internet, and hotels that you pay $200 per night charge $5-10 per day of usage. It must be that their internet is really special (served with branded cheese and caviar)… There is swimming pool, but it is not worth the hassle of going with few elevators to the other building, kind if minding your own while people in suits pass by you. Instead, just get in the cab and go to the Miami Beach or Key Biscayne to any of the beaches (it is a bit further, but much nicer)… Restaurant and bar are very slick, well designed, good food, decent cocktails, expensive.
Surrounding area used to be business/banking hub of Miami, but now, residential skyscrapers are taking over competing with office buildings with height and grandiose looks. Restaurants in the neighborhood are gyred towards meeting/expensive dining, and you have few really great steak houses. Little area of Marry Brickell Village has a shopping mall with good, older restaurants that have great feeling, food and vibe and few chain restaurants such as PF Chang’s and Rosa Mexicana. Variety of food/restaurants is also good, but I recommend one old Italian restaurant in that area (I think it is called Periscone or something like that) that has great brunch buffet, and actually everything in that restaurant is simply great.
It is very easy to get to this hotel due to proximity to Interstate 95 and location that is in the surrounded with large boulevards. Airport is 15 minutes away and places to go to, such as Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, Miami Beach are also on 10-15 min drive range. Many art venues are being built in the area, which should improve quality of living and entertainment (night life/clubs are ok thing, but some variety that includes nice ballet or opera is good too ) Down town is 5-6 blocks away and that place lives only during the day, while during the night it becomes a ghost town. Few large grocery shops are also in the area of 4-5 blocks.
