From Westport to Galway, and the Irish beauty in between
posted by:
Sep 03, 2005 – Sep 10, 2005
The first two days of my Irish jaunt hadn't particularly gone on well what with my feeling rather underwhelmed with Dublin, to an extent where I was asking myself what the appeal of this country was. The first day of my trip had been amazing, in that I was having fun again with a crowd. But where's…

A daytrip to Connemara with some of my oldest friends
posted by:
Apr 01, 1994 – Oct 15, 1996
My friends Jan-Eis and Monique came to look us up in Ireland for a while. It was low season and we had a lot of time to spend with them as the campsite was not very busy at all. Jan-Eis is quite technical so he also helped us with some work to upgrade the toilet block and our computer system. It wa…

After purchasing our tickets from O'Neachtain Tours the day before, we found ourselves waiting for the yellow and white tour bus that would take us on a day tour looping through Connemara on the R336. What a wonderful day! The tour included these stops: Spiddal, Inverin, deserted famine village, Ro…

Monday started out with no rain to visit KYLEMORE ABBEY. Built in the 1860's, this was acquired by the Benedictine nuns in 1920 when they left Belgium in World War I and  now houses a secondary girls boarding school. It was rather breathtaking when we pulled in the parking lot. …

Kylemore Abbey

I vaguely remember seeing a photograph years ago of this fairy-tale looking "castle" in Ireland. I had NO idea when we came around the corner in Kylemore, that this was it. Kylemore Abbey is a functioning convent run by the Benadictine nuns. Girls are accepted from all over to attend the school a…

A great national park
posted by:

We were 6 friends from Germany, France and Argentina to go for a 10 day trip to Ireland. The idea of this trip was to discover the green country though its landscape and little villages, so upon arrival in Dublin we jumped in our little cars....direction West. We got 10 sunny days, just to say that…

Along the coast of Lar Connaught on the North Sound of Galway Bay, I parked my car by a small beach and river inlet and got out for a look.  Through a clear sky, the sun shone brightly over land and sea.  The water appeared a glistening ultramarine and the sandy beach a smooth, soft beige…
