Civil War History Mar 28, 2017
Texas sent a large number of soldiers to fight on the Confederate side of the Civil War and they are proud of their history. Many of the generals and senior soldiers from the war held key positions in the state after the wars end and they led the way to the establishment and success of the state. This park was started so they would have a place to congregate. From 1889 to 1946 Confederate Veterans and their families would come to this site along the Navasota River for picnics, music and other activities. Today you can see the 1893 dance pavilion and ruins of buildings from the 1920s. Occasional reenactments too. Hours are 8 AM to 5 PM daily. Admission is $2 per person.
