Condesa DF Hotel Restaurant Mexico City Reviews
Feb 15, 2008
There are 2 restaurants at the condesa df hotel. the first one is at the bottom and the second is a sushi joint at the rooftop.
both offered excellent service. very friendly.
the ambiance was definitely trendy. there were hotel guests who dined there but definitely a lot of locals who ate there. the locals appeared to be more of the upper middle class well to do variety. but, unlike trendy places, the crowd here was actually very lively and friendly.
the food, however, was just average. the amuse bouche made of mushrooms/fish was too vinegary for my liking. i had the shrimp tacos, which were good and served with flour tortilla. my calamari was forgettable.
my drink, an horchata martini made of horchata, vodka and pineapple topped with cinammon was interesting. i like those individual ingredients; together, not so much. good to try though...
on another visit, i had another amuse bouche of tuna. that was actually quite lovely and i did enjoy it. i also had the shrimp tempura, which was good. one thing i did like is that the shrimp size was pretty big and not just all batter.
jen had a zucchini blossom stuffed with cheese. i think she said she liked it.
the sushi in the upstairs restaurant was ok. i had the yellowtail sashimi. it was not bad and the serving was generous. however, the wasabi was not only the clumpy kind but also not the spicy kind either. the ginger was the pink kind, which i think is inferior to the clear kind.
the meals here were relatively expensive. i would recommend eating here if you are tired and don't want to go anywhere. But if you are up for food explorations, go elsewhere and try other places.
the drinks here were about the same as drink prices in the us. however, i did enjoy the bar. i would recommend hanging out at the bar just because i thought the people were fun to hang out with. while my horchata martini was not great, it was not bad either. i did try their passion fruit sling and that was good. the jamaica martini was interesting although i probably would not order it. the pina colada was ok. whatever you do, do not have a mescal shot.
