Sybil did an amazing job of picking our hotel. Though I believe there are a lot of nice neighborhoods to stay in, we stayed at Hotel Condesa, which was in a residential area, but with good access to the Metro and Chapultepec Park. A few convenience stores (called OXO here) and bars are within a couple of blocks. It's safe, the staff is young, helpful, fun and really hard working, and totally 100% honest. They were almost bashful/embarrassed whenever I tipped them, and the housekeeping didn't even take the 20 pesos Sybil left on the nightstand in the middle of our stay.

Prices are definitely higher here. I think we paid something like $210 a night including all taxes and fees, but we had one of the larger rooms (they call it the double-double) and a room like this is easily $400 a night stateside.

this boutique hotel in the condesa neighborhood was great.

first, the service was excellent -- from the front desk to the wait staff to the housekeeping staff. we asked for recommendations and were given plenty; we asked for reservations to the hotel's restaurant and they made it happen; we asked for extra towels, etc, and they were immediately delivered; etc.

second, the room was gorgeous. we had a room facing veracruz street but it was quiet enough. the hotel, in general, plays music a-la w hotel but they have remedied that problem by offering ear plugs on the night stand. also, there were double doors so it muffled the noise from the outside. the rooms were equipped with a flat screen tv and an ipod. there was a big french window that overlooked the quiet tree-lined street. the beds were comfortable. the bathrooms were ok, although the showerhead was nice.

third, the location was excellent. it was close enough to the metro stop (chapultepec) to keep you connected to all the places you want to visit. it was also real close to chapultepec park, the archaeological museum and castillo. it was also within walking distance to the bar area -- but not too close that it was loud.

fourth, wifi was free in the rooms and in the public spaces. but if you do not bring your computer, there is a business center in the basement -- although there is only one computer (skype enabled), one printer and one phone.

i definitely recommend this hotel.
