The Ohio Theater is an old movie palace built in the 1920's. It's located downtown, across the street from the Statehouse. CAPA has restored the theater (and continues to do so), while specifically retaining the means for actually showing movies. Every summer, the CAPA movie series shows a variety of films. This year's schedule included Grease, The Princess Bride, Caddyshack, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Sound of Music, North by Northwest (Hitchcock), Sunset Boulevard and Dr. No. Toda...

Celebrating Mom

Where do I start?  Saturday, May 17, 2008, eight family members and myself participated in the Komen Race For The Cure through the streets of downtown Columbus, Ohio.  All of us dedicated our participation in celebration of my mother's life and others who have had life altered by breast cancer.  Before I relate our wonderful day, let me tell you why we were participating.  Last July during a routine check up, the doctor became suspicious of a benign lump that had be...

The Legend of the Seas was my favorite cruise yet.  The ship was beautiful and the ports were better!  We met so many wonderful new people and learned so many new things.  I have a new appreciation for the world around me.  My quote on my profile that states "Don't travel thinking you'll change the places you go. Travel thinking that the places you go will change you." Was very true for me on this trip.  I have a new outlook on many things.   I’m not a negati...

Getting Ready to Go!

Our way home took us from Santo Domingo to Atlanta (for customs) and finally on to Columbus, Ohio.  A long day, but so rewarding!  Coming through customs and security in Atlanta took approximately 1 1/2 hours.  Really not bad, and I'm sure the lines could have been much longer.  Our Delta flights were uneventful (which I really like) with on time service and no lost luggage.  Our only missing item was a couple of our luggage tags.  One very neat feature of the fl...

Columbus Ohio   The trip to Columbus could be defined as spur of the moment and only a day long.  There were five places in Columbus, Ohio that I wanted to visit and only about 14 hours to see all of them.  My first stop was at the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum as I am an avid motorcycle fan I had always wanted to stop by and see what they had to offer.  I was not disappointed in the least, the bikes, history and information kept me wanting more throughout the museum....

We headed down early for the 3:30 p.m. kickoff.  We were lucky enough to be given tickets (THANKS to Dan's Mom and StepDad!).  After getting through the normal game day traffic madness, we parked in our usual lot benefiting either special Olympics or the OSU wetlands project.  We made our way through the tailgaters to the stadium.  As you can see, I rubbed the spinney wet ball and met Mr. Ohio (them are some HOT pants, there Mr. Ohio).  We dropped by Heinygate (the ol...

On Monday morning, we went to downtown and walked around, went to one of the riverfront parks and enjoyed the Irish parade. It was very cold where we were watching if, on the Broad street bridge, so after the parade we decided to go where we were indoors. We went to the Polaris Shopping Center, it is very nice. Next day we went to the Art Museum and the Science Center. We spend the whole day in those two places, it was very enjoying. If you have children and are in the area the Science Center...

My oldest sister and I decided to arrive in the night hours, because Flogging Molly was the night-time band gig we were to see. They are an Irish rock band, and their combo style was very intriguing. We could hear them from within the food court, and we decided to sit and eat and have a listen. We neared the stage later on in the concert, and got in on some good jigging. I saw an Asian family attempting the jig, and it was pretty cool to see the combination of nationalities there enjoyin...

So I landed in Columbus, collected my bags for the final time this afternoon, and headed outside to take a shuttle to my car.  Walked out of the airport to that wonderful searing 90 degree heat and humidity that I missed over the two weeks in Europe (almost made me appreciate our days riding in the chilly rain).  Made the hour plus drive home through some pop-up thunderstorms and realized that truly this was journey's end. Thanks to all my new found friends (Steve, Jeff, Carrie, Ch...
