A very pretty drive

In late afternoon we get to the Colorado National Monument, which a very close friend of ours had told us about before we left home. “You just gotta see dis place” he said, “It’s so beeeuuutiful!”  Yeah, there is a wee bit of accent in there.  So we had added it to our itinerary.  And we were certainly glad we did.   Unlike so many other great scenic areas, this one doesn’t seem to have the notoriety it deserves.  But this one is suffering a little from …

Yet another park, but we found it on our way. Nice to see, but having seen Arches and Canyonlands, this wasn't that special anymore. Not saying that it isn't (yet again) a beautiful place.

Late in the afternoon of the 13th we were close to Grand Junction, Colorado, and had the opportunity to visit the Colorado National Monument.  A very close friend of ours from home had told us about this and told us that it should be considered a “must see”.  The sandstone formations and cliffs are wonderfully colored.  We understand that there is a canyon about 6 miles away that is only accessible by foot and has the second largest group of natural arches in the world.
