We had perfectly gorgeous weather as we explored Colonia today. Sunshine, clear sky, cool but not cold… wonderful. The Old Town is not huge, but what is here is very quaint and pleasant, and the people are so nice. When you stand at the pedestrian crosswalk, the cars actually stop to let you walk…

COLONIA, URUGUAY :
It seems that this American world Is waiting for that girl For the stars to shine in her eyes, For its wind to caress her, For its flowers to have someone To pick up the essence of their souls, And the currents of its great rivers, Someone to listen to and love its vague…

Gone to Uruguay for the day and it was fantastic! I arrived at 10:30
to check in and go through customs. We boarded about 11 and set sail
around 11:30. There were tons of people, lots of tourists as well as
locals onboard and I snoozed a bit, lulled by the rocking.
I decided to walk, I had a ma…

We get up this morning for a simple breakfast at the hotel.
We are going off to a farm this morning. We say good-bye to Don as he is not
interested in a farm and it’s his last day before going home, so he takes
morning ferry to Buenos Aires.
We get …

I took the slow ferry over to Colonia which takes 3 hours to save a bit of cash. It costs just under $100 AR for a single journey there with the company Buquebus. They offer a really well organised service over to Uruguay.
I was blown away by how beautiful Colonia was. Its incredibly small in comp…

We made it to Colonia after a straightforward 7 hour trip from Punta del Diablo. It was the former smuggling capital of Uruguay and is considered one of the "jewel in the crown" towns on the continent. Tree-lined cobbled streets, classic colonial buildings and a very tranquil atmo…

There are too many things to see in this big beautiful world. You just can't spend a full 3 to 6 weeks on each vacation. Some times things have to be done quick and dirty. So steal a day on each side of that weekend. Pack Tuesday's work clothes in the trunk of the car you leave at the airport. Catch a 10 hour red eye and get something done.

As part of my life as an illegal immigrant in Argentina, I have to leave the country every 3 months to renew my visa. Somehow it has already been 3 months since I got here, so I had to leave to country. If you don't leave every 3 months, you get stuck paying huge fines at the airport and you also…

One thing that is often taken for granted in your home country is the natural language. Being fluent in the native tongue of your homeland is something that many people do not consider a blessing. I suppose that is something that for a large part of the populati…
