Colmar France Feb 27, 2017
Colmar is in Alsace France, and on the main rail line from Paris to Switzerland. I used Colmar as a stopover on my way to Schaffhausen Switzerland. Basel Switzerland is only 45 minutes by train from Colmar. Colmar city centre is a lovely old place with half timbered buildings and the little Venice Area.----Pfister House dates from 1537 AD for the hatter Ludvig Scheror, today the building is a wine shop.----Bartholdi House is the birtplace of the creator of the statue of liberty, house now a museum.----Little Venice is a pretty area of channels from the river Lauch, in French called Petite Venise. There are boat trips, no gondolas.----St Martin Collegiate Church is the main church in Colmar.---- Old Guard House was built in 1575 orginally as a town hall, then as a guard house. Information in French and English on a board outside.----Bruat Fountain a tribute to Admiral Bruat who was born in Colmar.----Grande Rue is a street of quaint buildings mostly shops and mostly half timbered.----I stayed one night at hotel Le Colbert ,not far from rail station, in Rue Des Tois Epis , Colmar. A nice place to visit.
