College Hostel Toronto Reviews
Absolutely the worst, the dirtiest hostel in Toronto. Dec 14, 2008
A night in the Salvation Army flop houses must be better than this place which I stayed at only because the other, far better, hostels in the area were filled.
The office is open until 20.00H, often closing earlier.
The rooms have NO en suite toilets - there are mens and womens toilets, with showers, on each floor - usually in a filthy condition even minutes after the cleaning staff have meandered through doing a minimal amount of cleaning.
These staff never appear to clean the rooms.
Clean sheets and, on occasion towels, are dispensed by the front office but they smell! The reason is obvious, they are 'washed' in a laundromat across the street by the day office staff who stuff about 50 sheets and 25 pillow cases into a washing machine which, being grossly overloaded, can not clean the bedding effectively.
The pillows and blankets are unclean and smell.
The rooms, apart from being dirty, have two double-bunk beds in each one and a cupboard that lacks door.
There is NO room security other than a cheap lock and the BUILDING SECURITY is non-existent as entry can be gained by pulling on the doors.
There is a large, smelly kitchen where lazy guests leave their dishes unwashed and adjoining this is a TV room with seating that must have been good in the last century.
Underground, inside parking is available, at extra cost, but again the lack of security here only provides another means of illicit entry into the premises.
Noise is high, particularly in the rear of the building as there is a very busy fire station and the sirens of departing fire trucks is almost guaranteed to awaken the dead as well as guests at the hostel (I know - I had a rear room!).
There is WiFi with pitifully little range due to its position and the fact there is a lot of concrete in this building. This extra concrete is good as it is just the only 'fire' protection there is.
The only good thing about the hostel is the exit door. Only the desperate would even consider staying here.
Note: There are park benches available within a 5-minute walk.
The description provided by the hostel is complete fabrication. There is only 1 TV; there is NO sushi bar in the hostel; there are NO telephones in the rooms; the snack machine had been vandalised.
You can understand why the hostel has NO pictures of itself - only some nameless characters having fun.
