Coffeyville Vacation Guide
Coffeyville, KS was founded in 1869, and named for its founder Col. James Coffey. The Colonel opened a trading post along the Verdigris River, near the Indian Territory (Oklahoma).
The city is most famous as the site in which the Dalton Gang attempted to rob to banks at once. They failed miserably, with 4 of the 5 members being killed.
The city has approximately 10,000 people. The town is serviced by most major fast food restaurant, with the majority located on 11th St/US 166, which is the main street through town. The major casual dining restaurants have not discovered Coffeyville yet, but there are many local restaurants covering the major ethnic food styles.
Coffeyville has a very good museum, The Dalton Defenders Museum, that covers not only the famous gunfight, but local history and famous Coffeyvillians as well.
