Chettinad heaven! Aug 18, 2008
Chettinad is a region of the Sivaganga district of southern Tamil Nadu state, India. Karaikudi is known as the capital of Chettinad. Chettinad is well known for its culinary delicacies, mansions, temples and the Chettinad Sari.
Of course for me, it's all about the CUISINE.
Coconut Groove is one of Bengaluru's premiere Chettinad joints and has been doing great business for years. Everything is so novel - whether it's the watiers who wear green full arm shirts and dhotis, or the fact that the resnt isn't in a room, but rather in the open with bamboo shades and lanterns for night, or the fact that food is served on banana leaves. It's all one helluva experience.
The main catch here is the aapam - a thin paper crepe (kind of like dosa, only softer) and to go with that ,choose from many of their special seafood, vegetable stews or fried chicken dishes. A word of warning: chettinaad food by nature is rather spicy so this isn't for the faint hearted. But those that like spice (like me) are in for a treat! The food is fresh, so is the seafood for Bengaluru standards.
A+, all the way!
