Club Nirvana Wigan Reviews
Club Nirvana Mar 10, 2010
Club Nirvana is a nightclub in Wigan, which also occasionally has gigs. I was there to see Delphic, and they were excellent, but of course this is a travel blog so I am reviewing the venue.
Club Nirvana is in an excellent location, very near the stations. It is hidden down a sidestreet, so you will need to look out for it.
The venue itself is quite small. I strongly suspect it is an old converted cinema, which is great because it means that the acoustics work. The stage is raised up above the dance floor, so you can either stand on the dance floor, or up on the level with the bar, or there is a balcony too. The bar level has some bar stools and the bar is an island bar, leaving plenty of space to get some beers ahead of the gig. At the time of writing, bottled beers were only £1.50, which is great. The acoustics are good, and although the floor is sticky the bathrooms are clean and actually have toilet paper.
The bar staff are nice. The security guys are nice. Unusually for a British venue, they allow glass bottles over the bar – normally this would lead to chaos as the bottles got underfoot in the crowd, but Club Nirvana employs people in yellow high visibility vests to go through the crowd picking up the bottles. The bottle picking up guys are also nice, and manage to do their jobs without barging into you, which is nothing short of miraculous.
Dephic sold out Manchester in a couple of hours, which is how we ended up going through to Wigan instead. It was great to see a band that are selling out venues in such a small space, and there were no problems at all. If the same thing happened again, I would certainly go back.
