Haymarket Memorial Clock Tower Mar 20, 2016
A typical, beautiful Victorian clock tower, erected in 1868. Limestone is the main material used, the base is made of granite. Four famous citizens of Leicester are honoured on the clock: Simon de Montfort, William Wyggeston, Thomas White and Gabriel Newton. Unfortunately, I did not know any of them before - except for Simon the Montfort, forefather of modern parliaments and namesake of one of Lecester's universitys. Still, the clock is one of the most recognizable monuments of Leicester. The clock tower is a grade II listed monument.
