Safari in the Swamp Feb 08, 2009
Clark's Fish Camp is one of the most peculiar places I've ever eaten, but in a good way! First, the location is right on the water ... basically a dock and boat ramp into the St Johns River. Second, the place looks like a dump of a shack from the outside, but looks can be deceiving. Third and fourth, the inside is filled with wild animals from around the world, both of the taxidermy variety and the kind that show up on your dish. While Clark's is primarily a seafood restaurant, their menu is filled with exotic animals from both land and sea (and river and swamp). They have "Call of the Wild Appetizers" that include gator tail, smoked eel, fried turtle, rabbit, frog legs, quail, ostrich, kangaroo, venison, buffalo, antelope and rattlesnake. I had alligator sausage and blackened quail.

When I visited, water was still subsiding from a recent hurricane. Parts of the parking lot and the deck running to the door were still underwater. That made the visit all that more interesting. You could even see some small gators in the water next to the deck. It's a fun and interesting place to go, and yes the food is decent.

If you are looing for something differnt this is it. Sep 10, 2009
The cost for most dishes is Average but the more rarer foods can ger a bit in to the higher priced bracket.

The restaurant itself is located off of Julington Creek, a tributary for the St Johns River at the very, very end of Hood Landing Road. Half on land half on the water way it offers a beautiful environment away from the busy streets of Jacksonville. There is everything on the menu of a traditional seafood restaurant catfish, oysters, shrip, ect. but they also offer some stranger things such as gator, fried pickles, frog legs and ostrich steaks. Its a truely differnt dining experiance.

Finding the words to describe this restaurant is nearly impossible. One meal here will have you coming back again and again. Located in Mandarin, Jacksonville, Florida on Julington Creek this gem of a restaraunt boasts a fun jungle themed atmosphere that is appropriate for all ages. As you walk along the wooded dock leading up to the restaurant your eyes wander down to the creek where turtles are abound. Once inside your eyes feast on sights that are nearly as delicious as the food. Don't let the uneven floors fool you, this casual restaraunt has an impecable menu that includes not only seafood but also the largest slab of prime rib you'll ever feast your eyes on and wild game.

Let your appetite run wild as you dine on the delicious kangaroo, shark, calamari, elk, ostrich, turtle or many of the other outrageous menu choices.

I highly recommend this restaraunt to anyone, it's one of my favorites here in Jacksonville!
