Well located, nice food, pleasant hotel Aug 11, 2012
This hotel was a former 19th Century bakery which homed the bakery workers. Converted to a hotel in the 1980s artefacts and signs from the old bakery adorn the walls and add to the charm of the hotel.

It's well located in the old part of town and only a short walk from the beautiful Nidaros cathedral. Around 400m from the train station, it's also only a short walk through the concert building to the flybussen stop at the Radisson SAS where the airport buses stop.

There are just over 100 rooms in the hotel and unusually the doors open out into the corridor.

Breakfast is buffet style with a wide choice of cereals, cold cuts, freshly baked bread, bacon, scrambled eggs etc in a nice bright atrium and you will see many people preparing their 'matpakke' - packed lunch to take out with them for the day.

If you're back between 4-6pm you can make your own Norwegian waffles, and then there is also an evening buffet included in your price. The evening buffet bears a striking resemblance to the breakfast - bread, cheese, cold cuts, fruit, and usually a hot dish.

Tea and coffee is available all day, with takeaway cups so you can transport either back to your room or out on your explorations.

The reception staff are lovely and friendly and can even advise on a jogging route around the city.

It's not the cheapest place to stay in the city but the food is plentiful and you probably wouldn't have to buy any food out in town if you stayed here. Apparently there are also fitness facilities, but I must have been too busy making my waffles to find it!

Nice hotel in the center of Trondheim. Located in Trondheim’s historical heart, the hotel offers easy access to the city’s main attractions, including the Jewish Museum and the Royal Residence, and its numerous shops and restaurants.

Originally an 18th century bakery where the old society of craftsmen confronted modern times, the hotel has proudly preserved the memory of its history through exhibitions and embellishments. Every morning, you will still awake to the smell of freshly baked bread from the hotel’s café.

After a nice breakfast, you could begin your exploration of Trondheim with visits to Monks Island, Nidaros Cathedral, the Kristiansten Fort or the Central Square.

The hotel is placed about 500 meters from the train and bus station.

Trondheim has a rich cultural life. The city has a modern theater with a long history and a well-established position in Scandinavia. As a result of the traditional celebration of St. Olav's Day at the end of July every year, Nidaros Cathedral (Nidarosdomen) has developed into a thriving church music center. The city of Trondheim is great to visit anytime of the year. Tourists flock here in the summer when it never really gets dark and visitors can stroll down the peaceful city streets or sample some of the exciting nightlife. Rooms are small to medium in size and in good condition decorated in warm earthy tones and with beech wood furnishings. Bathrooms are tiled and in good condition. The Clarion Collection Hotel Bakeriet is centrally located within walking distance of Old City Bridge (Gamle Bybro), the central station and the islet of Munkholmen, also known as Monk's Island and only minutes from OlavsHallen concert hall, the Royal Residence in Trondheim (Stiftsgarden), the Kristiansten Fortress and Lerkendal Stadion football stadium. The hotel offers an organic breakfast buffet as well as afternoon tea and light evening buffet served in the restaurant area which is in the inner courtyard of the hotel providing an outdoor feeling inside with a large glass atrium. The floor is tiled and it is a spacious room where in line with the history of the building fresh bread is baked inhouse every morning. The hotel is in a white historical building which was originally a bakery back in the 1800's. The lobby is small with a reception desk and some seating area and decorated in warm earthy colours with tiled floors and light wood furnishings.
