The Clachaig Inn comes as a welcomed respite after a day’s long hike and driving, but check the website to see what events are on if you want some peace and quiet. The Inn is split into 3 bar areas, styled with slate floors and wood features such as a real log fire. Scattered throughout the Inn you’ll spot mountain themed paraphernalia; photos on the wall depict the rich climbing history of the area. The bar not only had a vast array of locally brewed ales and whiskies but also lots of great food options; I tried their haggis taster which wasn’t as bad as I imagined haggis would be. The Aberdeen Angus cheeseburger was tasty; I washed it down with a pint of smooth caramel tasting River Leven Ale and their house Clachaig whiskey – my new favourite alcoholic beverage by far. On another visit I had the venison casserole which was very tender, cooked in a mixed berry sauce. Unfortunately I didn’t have enough room left after each meal to try any of their deserts, but I did walk away feeling I tasted the real Scotland.
