remains of the fortified old town Sep 22, 2016
Kadan's city walls are in large parts well preserved, especially on the eastern and southern side of the old town, where they are most impressive. On the western side the walls were partially incorporated in the houses that were built later, but at least one of the city gates - Mikulovicka brana (Gate of the Saints) - is still there. The first walls were erected after 1259, the preserved walls are from the late 14th and 15th century.

On the eastern side you can still see the inner and outer wall, between them is now a nice garden with art works, a popular place for a walk, it seemed to me. On the northeastern corner is a bastion from the late Gothic era preserved, now a branch of the city museum with a military exhibit. On the southeastern corner you can see a barbican, originally fortification of the Saaz city gate, which was sadly torn down in 1832. The crenels are still well preserved.
