City Palace Jaipur Reviews
Very pretty little place Feb 10, 2011
Along with Hawa Mahal, the City Palace has to be at the joint top spot of tourist things to visit in Jaipur.
The palace is an impressive insight into the life of the maharajahs. There are quite a few items on show here. I particularly liked the two rather amazing and large water vessels which were used by the maharajah to take Ganges water to England. As he was attending Edward’s coronation in the early half of the twentieth century, he was concerned about having to drink the polluted water of London! The range of weaponry is also rather impressive, and when it was made a few hundred years ago, I’m sure it served a political purpose.
Elsewhere in the palace, the central area contains this wonderful courtyard. The gates here are amazing, and in particular, the peacock gate was rather impressive and beautifully coloured. From here, you get to see this yellow coloured building, which is where the current maharajah and his family still live.
In general, I really enjoyed exploring the various exhibitions and architectural aspects of the palace and this its well worth visiting.
