City Island Harrisburg Reviews
Aug 23, 2007
Whether you've actually decided to come to Harrisburg as a tourist, or you were forced to travel there against your will, you'll want to check out City Island. This city park is most active in the summer, since pretty much all of the activities take place outdoors, but is still a nice place for a stroll in any season. To get there either drive across the Market Street Bridge or walk across the Walnut Street Bridge from downtown.
HARRISBURG SENATORS BASEBALL
Double "A" baseball at its finest! The Senators are an affiliate of the Montreal Expos and play their home games on City Island. Games start at 6:35pm and 1:05 on Sundays and admission is between $3-8. Watch out for the Mayflies at night, when the river doesn't get sprayed there can be serious swarming under the stadium lights! You might even see my Dad there, he's one of their biggest fans.
This is my favorite thing to do on CI. You have to walk clear across the island from the parking lot to get to the miniature golf area, but its fun to play on this well-maintained course right on the river bank (watch for beavers!). And they sell Hershey's ice cream at the snack bar - try the raspberry. From May - Labor Day its open 10-10, with more limited hours during the rest of the year; its closed Dec-Feb. Rates are $5.50 for adults and $4.50 for kids and seniors.
THE PRIDE OF THE SUSQUEHANNA RIVERBOAT
The Pride of the Susquehanna is a red and white striped paddlewheel riverboat that offers cruises on the Susquehanna River from City Island. The Pride's public cruises happen daily (June - August) except Mondays. Trips occur less frequently in May, Sept and Oct. Public cruises are 45-minutes long and cost $4.95 per adult, $3.00 for children 12, and children 2 years and under ride for free! Dinner cruises and private parties are also available. 717.234.6500
