Part time Hostel with flexible prices? May 02, 2011
I have a bit of a story to tell about staying at the City Hotel so bare with me...
When i was here in 2007 there was a heavy metal concert happen and thankfully the cluster of hostels closest to the train station were full of metalheads.
I walked up to the City Hotel/Hostel and people were saying the hostel, yes the hostel was full. They had a banner on the roof advertising a hostel, so i assume it's sometimes both.
I stopped a couple backpackers who were just leaving and said they were booking rooms in the hotel for 95euros per night, and the hostel prices were 50 Euros.
There were many people inside waiting to book a room so i walked further into town to try my luck with the other hostels. For whatever reason the hostels named in my travel guide were non-existent and i found only one which was also full called the Alibi Hostel.
I was worried about the City Hotel being full so he Alibi Hostel staff called and hooked me up with a bed at the City Hotel for 50 euros so i walked back to the City Hotel so that was great!
By the time i returned, the line-up was gone. I asked about the hostel and they said they had a bed for 35 Euros so i took it... i don't know why the price dropped but it did.
I guess during the rush they were just taking advantage of it from the train crowd and hoping people would pay top dollar upon arrival.
Not sure if the prices are negotiable but it might be worth a try...
+As for actual quality of the hotel, it's nice, it's clean, the showers were spotless and the elevators were quick. The internet took a long time to get an available spot but it was free. You just have to get a code from the front desk and log in.

Not too bad for the price Nov 28, 2011
Well that's assuming you get a good price - for the basic rooms I would say that would be around €100 +/- per night.
The location must be one of the best attributes of the place: the hotel is central and just a stone’s throw from the historic old town.
The cleanliness is another plus. Free internet (in the lobby there are two pcs, while a cable connection is offered in the rooms) is another advantage which makes this hotel quite a good choice when staying in Ljubljana.
Add to that a rich breakfast and you've got a pretty good package.
Simple Aug 20, 2010
If I should decide worst hotel in this journey certainly choose City Hotel Ljubljana. Not to be bad, but it was the less comfortable I found. Small room, small bathroom (faulty shower), old furnitures. Breakfast, yes, breakfast was positive. Rich, for any needs! Can't say so much about service, the only thing I noticed is that when we went to restauranto for breakfast and we went back to the room, after 5 minutes, the room had already been cleaned; the feeling is that they just fixed the bed.
Reception staff is professional and gentle; they speak several languages: english, french and italian at least!
Free internet connection (wired) in the rooms.
Location is perfect to reach in few minutes, walking, the old city center.
The price is the right price for this kind of hotel: 100 euro for a twin room including breakfast!
