It is sky blue with beautiful Burmese architecture Feb 01, 2017
Just on the north side of Mahabandoola Garden you will see the beautiful sky blue building of Yangon City Hall. It used to be a mustard yellow colour but the whole building was painted sky blue in 2012 and it really brightens up the area. Take a look at the PYATTHAT, the traditional tiered roof, designed by the same Burmese architect , U Tin that designed the railway station. Construction began in 1926 but it was not completed until 10 years later. This is a major site for political demonstrations including a huge rally by the Peoples Peace Committee in 1964 that was clamped down by the government forces. Also bombings took place in 2000, 2008 and 2009. As well as admiring the roof take a look at the black dragons that are on each side of the entrances. The building is administered by the Yangon City Development Committee.

There is a proposal that the building may be opened for visitors in the coming year so check this out when you are in Myanmar, you may be lucky enough to go inside---------and pay a bigger entrance fee than the locals, no doubt !
