City Grill Moscow Reviews
City Grill - Funky Restaurant with Creative and Affordable Modern Cuisine. May 22, 2008
City Grill, located in central Moscow, offers a variety of tasty and beautifully prepared dishes in hip dining atmosphere. This dimly lit double-decker restaurant radiates an urban funkitude with exposed brick and cement walls and a busy kitchen visible behind tinted yellow/blue glass. The restaurant’s sleekly cut dark wood furniture is tucked away behind large wooden beams and in nooks and crannies giving dinners a sense of privacy despite the small eating areas. Even the bathroom of shiny stainless steel and mirrors, glowing under dim lights can be described as cool (well…cool for a bathroom).
City Grill’s chefs match the restaurant’s ambience fusing European, Asian and Russian cuisine into imaginative and tasty dishes served with nothing less then a stylish flair. City Grill’s mid-sized menu, in both English and Russian, includes pizzas, soups, salads, wok plates, sushi (of course), main courses of fish and meat, and deserts. The Beijing Duck Pizza is particularly good with tangy plum sauce and duck meshing well with a flavorful cheese. The wok plates are also good and feature an assortment of stir fry dishes inspired the cuisines of multiple countries including Thailand and Russia. From front to back the menu offers colorfully creative, fresh and flavorful dishes that appeal to the eye as much as the taste buds.
City Grill also offers a large drink menu featuring trendy cocktails, such as the Mojito, a wide range of liquors and wines. There is a nice selection of quality imported beer but City Grill does not serve any Russian brands.
While not a budget restaurant, City Grill’s prices are reasonable, especially considering the atmosphere and the restaurants location in central Moscow. A pizza and a beer or a wok plate and a beer, both good for a light dinner, cost approximately $20. Main courses run between $15 and $25. Even the beers are reasonably priced under $4 for a .33L (American size bottle) and under $7 for a half liter.
City Grill is located on the Garden Ring (Sadovaya-Triumfalnaya Ul.) near Mayakovskaya metro station. The restaurant is within view of the statue of Vladimir Mayakovsky (can’t miss him) and directly across the street from the American Bar and Grill. City Grill is easily reached by foot from the vicinity of Pushkin Square or by metro from anywhere in the city. Given the restaurants location at the corner of Tverskaya and the Garden Ring it is also easily accessible via taxi, except at rush hour.
I highly recommend City Grill for locals, ex-pats and visitors alike. If looking for an affordable and cool place to enjoy a meal with friends, or perhaps a date, you won’t be disappointed by the deliciously creative and funky eating experience found at City Grill.
