The network of the city public transport consists of 66 bus routes. Many bus routes start at the central market, at the Southern Railway Station and connect different districts of the city. City buses and route buses (which we call “marshroutkas”) are perhaps the most popular public transport in Poltava. Their advantages include speed and mobility, frequent periodicity of arrival to the bus stop, the opportunity to reach not only the areas of the city, but some commuter routes.

Unlike many other cities in Ukraine, Poltava has the names of the bus stops written in big letters. So, if you read some Russian/Ukrainian, you will not miss your bus stop.

I must say, the buses were very fast, and all the fellow passengers in a bus or in a trolley bus always showed their readiness to help and prompted us where to get off to reach the place we needed.

There is a city program "City without outskirts', whose mission is to maintain preferential sectors of the population, as well as the residents of the remote areas of Poltava. The city has a bus terminal and two local bus stations that we call AC-2 and AC-3 (AC means bus station). We used AC-3 to get to Dikanka and to do sightseeing there.

Trolleybuses have been functioning in Poltava since 1962. The total length of trolleybus routes if about 72 km. The trolleybuses operate from 5 a.m. until 11 p.m. There are ten trolleybus routes in the city. The shortest route is No.1 – 13 km, and the longest one is No.6 – 34 km.
