Social, well equipped hostel near central station Apr 01, 2012
I spent the last leg of my journey here and it was one of the best hostels I have stayed in. To me, hostels are about being able to meet and interact with fellow travellers rather than the quality of the amenities, but fortunately this place gets an A for both.

City Backpackers is clean and has free internet and wifi, good beds, an upstairs cafe, laundry, and a well equipped kitchen. An excellent bike tour is available.

Breakfast is so so, but really you should accept that hostel breakfasts in general are not your best value wherever you go. Location is near the central station, good food options and cafes, and shopping but maybe a little further from the sites on the islands. I had no problems walking everywhere and the hostel has bikes for rent.

As I mentioned earlier this place is very social, and its easy to meet other travelers even if you backpack solo. One downside: there is no hostel bar and hard liquor is not allowed. However, this did not stop us from having drinks before going out to old town or the clubs. We got a warning for being a little too loud one night, but thats it.

Maybe the best hostel in the slim pickings of Scandinavia, but a fantastic hostel in its own right in one of the best cities in all of Europe. Given the great time I had here, I can't see myself seriously flirting with another hostel if I return to Stockholm.

City backpackers hostel stockolm Apr 17, 2011
I have just stayed in this hostel during two nights and i had a great time. The hostel is very good located and not so expensive. I need to borrow sheets or get your own. in the room there is a locker space and you can have your own or buy one there.

I really nice thing that i have enjoyed was the social environment. the hostel give you free pasta, so everyone is cooking on the kitchen. That is really nice to meet new people when you are travelling by yourself. I just met a wholw bunch of new and interesting people to disciver stockloms night with.

It is not worth to by the hostel breakfast though (it is just a sandwich, juice and milk/coffe). You can go to the supermarket that is really close and just grab something.

The bathrooms (namely the girls one) don´t lock and open directly to a wall what is the only thing that i didn´t like that much.

But excluding that, 5 stars to this hostel!

Social, friendly service, clean and confortable beds :-)

Stockholm's City Backpackers Hostel Apr 11, 2011
City Backpackers is a pretty sweet deal. It has everything you'd expect from a great hostel: free internet, clean, mixed living, private living, full kitchen, etc. So I'll skip commenting on all of that.

Here are some highlights that I particularly liked about City Backpackers.

- Social areas in the hostel. At the reception desk, there’s a small café and an outdoor patio. In the morning, you can buy a light breakfast and coffee and recap the night’s events. Downstairs, there’s a kitchen that can easily fit 12-14 people at the tables. The main TV/hang out room easily handles 20 along the wall couches and seats. Both the kitchen and main room are great for meeting new people, relaxing, and … of course, make a great after-hours party area.

- City Backpackers offers a few extras if you’re looking for things to fill the day. Check out the Viking Sauna Tour and the Bar Tour. Both are pretty fun. I’ve heard good things about the Boat and Bike Tours, but I personally haven’t done them myself.

- Location. It’s a 10-minute walk from the train station, which is where the train from the airport dumps you out. A 5-minute walk puts you on the main pedestrian walk. It runs through the center of the downtown area, and is littered with restaurants, bars, cafés, and shops.

- Staff … they definitely fall in the “good people” category. They truly want you to have a good experience in their city. There’s a stack of maps next to the cashier’s desk … and they are masters of the map-and-pen technique. Give them a couple of minutes, and you’ll walk away with a city map full of good restaurants with local cuisine, local pubs, clubs, landmarks, train/trolley stops, museums, and whatever else pops in your mind. My map that they doodled on carried me for 4 days, and I still didn’t get to do everything I wanted.

Awesome hostel! Great value for money, met some great people there. Has a kitchen which includes a different fridge for each dorm room which is quite handy. Also, a common room with a TV, bean bags and computers with free internet.

Lockers for your valuables in the rooms, sauna, a laundry and an iron for your clothes.

One quite interesting custom is that you must take your shoes off before entering the hostel. :D The hostel is located about a 5 minute walk from the train station, which puts it in an ideal location for me! :)

The only downside is perhaps the breakfast which you pay for seperate wasn't all that great value.

Funky Hostel with Great Ammenities Sep 30, 2010
This hostel obviously has a lot of money. There were plenty of mac computers to go around with free internet! The free pasta was also a nice touch. The hostel had great character - probably due to the fact that Sweden's known for design. I thought the bed in the dorm was comfortable. I also like the fact that there was a reading light for each bed. The place was really secure, lots of lockers for you to store things in. The kitchen had individual fridges for each dorm which was nice. An extra bonus was that the hostel provided rental of the Stockholm public transport card - it was a real money saver! Would definitely stay there again. Probably one of the nicest looking hostels that I've seen. Location was central too.

Things that weren't so great were as follows:

There weren't any hooks in the shower to hook your towel or clothes. You had to basically come out of the cubicle naked to grab what you needed. That or I suppose try to sling your towel over the top of the door of the cubicle. I thought the ktichen could have had more equipment - ie: more chopping boards, knives, etc. It was a bit of a monumentous event trying to cook something in the kitchen.

Perfect Place to Stay in Stockholm Nov 24, 2010
Located just a couple blocks from Central Station, the hostel is extremely convenient and easy to locate (and you won't have to carry your bags very far!).

The staff is awesome- always more than willing to answer questions about Stockholm and the whole country, with great recommendations.

The hostel is full of other guests who are super friendly and it is very easy to find people to hang out with.

My cousin and I stayed here for about a week, and it was one of the best during my whole time in Sweden! Would love to go back!

A Place To Meet Friends In The Heart Of The City Aug 01, 2008
Just a few hundred metres from the Central Station, this hostel is well situated for your arrival into town.

When you first enter the hostel you have to take off your shoes, this felt wierd at first but honestly it made it all feel that bit more homely.

The rooms are your bog standard dorm room to be honest but that doesnt matter when staying in a hostel.

The kitchen is very well stocked and very sizeable. The lounge had plenty of seats and tables for socialising around. Both times I have stayed here, the kitchen and lounge area proved great for meeting and talking to new people who were all up for a night out and seeing new places.

There is an out door lounge area under covers with large cushions, almost Arabian like.

I have stayed here twice before and will most likely stay here the next time I'm in town.

Great Hostel in the heart of Stockholm Jul 02, 2008
This is one of the best hostels I have ever stayed at and I have been to quite a few… The setup is great it maximizes the interaction factor, a huge kitchen/table area where everyone socializes while eating, which you have to pass thru in order to go to the free internet, its like a casino, they want you to mingle and talk to other guests and that is great! There is a free sauna (sweet!) an awesome patio on the property and you get the feeling you are staying more at a house party with a bunch of friends than you do at a hostel with strangers. Its 10 min walk from Stockholm Central Station.

while in stockholm last summer, i spent my time at the city backpackers - it was a minimal walk from the train station, slightly uphill.

they offered free internet - i believe there were four stations - free coffee/espresso/latte machine - free foosball, but most important for me was free pasta. food was pretty expensive in sweden, but they just had a big bucket of dry pasta that almost everyone was cooking up, just buy your own sauce.

pretty good common area, both upstairs and down - good bunks in the rooms, with large lockers that easily fit my aether 60L pack. i do not know if they had a safe behind the desk or what not for more important valuables, but i stored everything i needed to in my locker.

they also have a sauna downstairs, with separate times for males/females - the showers, while separate, have a little bit of common area, so if that is a problem for you, you might not want to stay here.

however, the hostel didnt allow alcohol inside the building while i was there. though we would drink outside in the courtyard, as long as you didnt get too rowdy, i think the other buildings are just apartments, and noise can be an issue late at night.

i hope that doesnt scare you away unless thats something you are absolutely looking for. i had a great time - the facilities, people, and staff were all very helpful.

good luck!
