CitizenM Hotel Amsterdam City

We loved Citizen M’s newest location in Amsterdam. It is a bit outside of downtown, but near the Museumplein and right next door to the Amsterdam Zuid train station, so a convenient location (only one stop and ten minutes by train from Schiphol). The rooms are very small with separate pods serving as the bathroom (what we called the ‘potty-poddy’) and shower. The XL king bed and awesome pillows were incredibly comfortable and there is a touch pad that controls the room – you can choose music and lighting to suit your mood quite easily.

At the end of the day all you really do is sleep in your hotel, so they’ve economized and provided what you really need for an incredible price, so don't expect square footage. We paid significantly less to enjoy this place! The secret ingredient is the spacious lobbies and bar/food service available round the clock down stairs. The design is hip and comfortable and we loved the personnel, primarily college age folks from all around Europe. It was easy to strike up a conversation with any of the staff, and talking with a guy from Greece was enlightening: he had sought a job here to distance himself from political unrest back home.

There is also a nearby Metro stop, so you are only a couple minutes from Centraal Station. We walked back and forth to Centraal several times (after all Citizen M stands for “Citizen Mobile”) and I’d guess it is about four kilometers away, but a pretty walk! Only caution is that the e-mailed directions to reach the hotel from the train station referenced a sign outside the train station which does not exist --- you need to walk past the WTC from the station, walk under the overpass and across the small park. Turn right on the street just past the small park and you will see it on the corner. Welcome Citizen Mobile!
