There are two guards at their post that stand guard for two hour shifts and are allowed to move every 15 minutes by marching down their guard post. I really believe they train hard not to move. I felt like I was standing next to two statues. I kept saying `dont lock your knees`and smiling to get some type of reaction from at least one of them. Nothing at all!!! We headed in to the gates as the platoons were forming up to `Change of the Guard`. The Changing of the Guard was rather impressive for me to see. This is only done during the summer monthes according to a soldier I spoke with as we left. The ceremony last about 35 minutes. Their mascot is a ram. What discipline their rams have to endure the changing over. Marching is rather different in Canadian Army than US military. They do not do an about face nor do they march like we do. Their uniform for this sensational ceremony is a dress uniform with a `busby`hat which is made of black bear fur.

The band plays and platoons change over. The ram is marching with his Corporal the entire time. There are currently 4 Corporals that are the gate keepers of the 4 rams that are held there. The rams are given turns on being part of the cermony based on their behavior of that day.

The rest of the tour we walked the grounds and went thru museums and at high noon we saw the cannon lit off. What a great way to experience another country`s formal military ceremony.
