500 year old beauty May 02, 2011
This hostel is located in an excellant vantage point to tour and explore Jerusalem's maze of the old city. It is a beautiful old building and the staff are generally very helpful, when asked the right questions:)

Only downsides, don't expect to feel clean when you get out of the shower, and the mattresses are atrocious. Plus I'm pretty sure they don't change the sheets, but it's still worth a stay. Location, location, location.

The location is very good, about 5 minutes walk from Jaffa Gate and, 2 minutes more from the gate, you have the bus stop for the central bus station. Ben Yehuda Street is about 15-20 minutes walk, with lots of places to have some food or a drink.

Double rooms are nice but I heard the dorms are really small. There is roof terrace from where you can enjoy nice views of the old city. There are people sleeping on the roof too.

There is internet access by the reception but there is only one computer, so it's usually taken.

There is a kitchen and a coffee machine (1 coffee for 4 schekels).

The staff was very nice and helpful, with the exception of just one guy, but never mind...

The common areas are cool, with cushions and low tables, and the rooms themselves are quite nice, cave-like.

5-starts Hostel in Jerusalem Nov 21, 2009
Citadel is a kind of 5-stars Hostel. This trip was first one that I stayed in Hostels. First one in Tel Aviv was Ok, but very old. So for me staying in Citadel was like staying in Hilton!

Citadel was doing some improvements, so ground floor corridors near kitchen were little mess but not a problem.

The dorm is clean, with new beds and blankets, etc. I stayed in a private room but shared bathroom. The shared bathrooms are clean and I think they're just improved. It's not a "party" hostel, alcohol is not allowed insisde the building but there is alternative in some places near Jaffa Gate.

I enjoyed staying there. I really recommend.
