Affordable Budget Accomodation with self-catering facilities Jun 07, 2009
Having landed into Alona Beach resort without booking anywhere to stay I was dismayed to find that my Lonely Planet's prices were well out of date and the budget accomodation along the beach front, didn't exactly suit my budget...
Luckily I was pointed in the direction of Citadel Alona Inn which turned out to be one of the nicest budget places I have stayed in, in a long time. It's about 250m walk away from the beach, an attractive two-storey building set amidst a well-cared for garden.
The cheapest rooms are very pokey with a very small double bed (42"), but with a fan at 570peso, they are not bad value. Much better value tho, are the family rooms which we splashed out on. with two 'double' beds and at 700peso (with a fan) they are still cheaper than most of the beachfront hostel and the rooms have so much space and storage. Also, they were spotless!
None of the rooms are ensuite but the 2 common bathrooms on each floor; each with a shower and toilet cubicle were kept clean.
On the 2nd floor there is a communal kitchen which has gas cookers and a fridge which you have full access to. Outside the kitchen is a second floor covered balcony which is set up with tables so you can dine or relax.
Downstairs there is a reception room with TV (which is very nicely decorated but the tv volume was ridiculously loud when we were there). The rear garden is beautiful with is has 2 large umbrella-shaded sitting areas, a BBQ and a sink if you want to wash your clothes.
The staff were helpful, although quite reserved. Breakfast and towels available at an extra charge. Marketstall directly opposite selling fruit and veg. Shop some 20m up the way selling all sorts of basics at very reasonable prices.
