Cirencester is in the Cotswolds, an area well known for its natural beauty. There is a church that is almost totally obscured by its own enormous stone gateway, and a recently refurbished museum full of artefacts from Roman times. Cirencester is one of the few towns in England where the interesting shops are shut on Sundays. There is also an enormous yew hedge and the remains of a Roman Villa. The craft market is on in the corn exchange on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month.
The town is near to the Cotswold water park, where Keynes Country Park boasts of the only fresh-water blue-flag beach in England.

We woke up late owing to a drunken night playing cards, drinking beer and generally having a bit of a laugh and the sun was streaming into the house. Up, washed and showered, with the ballast of a good bacon sandwich inside us and off we went to exercise both hound and nephew.
Down to the river and both kin and cainine went nuts in the river. The pic...

In the Cotswolds area we stayed on a dairy farm (Note: we weren't sharing bedspace with cows. It was a B&B on a house situated on a dairy farm).
From there we visited Oxford, which we loved. The look and feel of the city was great, but it was the history that captivated us the most. To think of the many great thinkers that had studied here, and the wonderful ideas that were formulated in libraries, colleges, parks and pubs. We ate in the pub where CS Lewis, Tolkien and other writ...
