A beautiful hike! Dec 27, 2009
The cinque terre or 5 towns are a collection of beautiful towns that can be reached via a stunning walk or hike. You can work your way through the natural terrain and stop every once in a while to witness the beautiful views of the sea. It is even possible to slip away from the route and climb down one of the ladders to find your own isolated beach to relax or go swimming in the delightful waters.

The towns act as stop off points where you can explore, sunbathe or grab something to eat. It is also a possibility to stay in one of the hotels that are located here. I stayed in Monterossa for a couple of nights with my hitchhiking buddy. It was picturesque and desolate.

The walk is quite tiring and I suggest you take it easy instead of storming to the finish. There is even a man in the hillside who grows his own lemon grove. Refresh yourself with a freshly squeezed lemonade or some limoncello.

Via dell'Amore Mar 12, 2008
The Via dell'Amore (or The Walk of Love) is a wonderful trek to make if you are visiting Cinque Terre. A myriad of paths links the various villages of the Cinque Terre and their neighboring hill-top hamlets. You will see spectacular views of cliffs, terraces and coasts. The natural beauty of this area reals you in and the local flora intoxicates your senses. The turquoise waters of the Mediterranean invites you into her arms for a little dip, so if you take this trek take along your swimsuit because it's a great finish to an amazing hike. Grab the nearest rock and bask in the sun like the Italians do it.

*The only downside to our trek was the construction that was going on with the path while we were there. They have to do construction quite often because of the hilltop paths; rocks falling, worn down paths, etc. All in all this was an amazing hike that if highly recommended if you are visiting.

*There is a small fee for this hike, but all of the proceeds go to restoring the paths. The card you purchase is called the Cinque Terre Card and you can buy one for either 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, or 7 days of use. This card intitles you to many other benefits while you will be visiting like: bus and public lift travel, museums, free mountain bike hire for 3 hours on routes of medium-high altitudes, etc.

Cinque terre walk... Blogs

Dec 09, 2007
Italy this time of the year is in Winter (Dec - Feb) which is far from what we are experiencing on the other side of the world in Australia. Not having experienced a European winter before I was a little unsure of what to expect and let me say now I…Cinque Terre (Five Islands) and walked around Monterosso al Mare and Riomaggiore......... deserted in winter but still beautiful to see! We didn't stay here long enough to wander round and find things, so I'm definately going back there! MILAN : We spent a day shopping… When In Italia
