Cincinnati Vacation Guide
Cincinnati (Queen City, City of Seven Hills, Porkopolis) exists at the nexus of north and south in the United States. Beneath a conservative veneer (typical of a more southern city in the US) a lively, active city emerges with much in the way of activities: from professional sports teams (Reds and Bengals), an active music scene (music geeks check out woxy.lala.com), and other nightlife, historical, and outdoor activities galore. The Cincy/NKy (Northern Kentucky) area has plenty of activities to suit your fancy. One of these is the Underground Railroad Freedom Center which recalls Cincinnati's location along the Union and Confederacy during the Civil War. Pay a visit to Kings Island and/or the beach, north of town for amusement park adventures during the hot/hazy summers.
Why "Porkopolis"? In its early days, Cincinnati was a major processing facility of pigs/pork in the US. Today that history is celebrated with the Flying Pig Marathon held every May.
A strong German heritage is very evident in Cincy. Cincinnati even has a licenced Hofbrauhaus from Munich and celebrates Oktoberfest yearly.
Also be sure to try "Cincinnati-style Chili" at some point during your stay. Skyline and Gold Star are the best known brands but try to find one of the smaller local restaurants for a true taste. Make it a three-way and you'll remember Cincinnati for sure.
"WKRP in Cincinnati" used the Cincy skyline in its opening montage and was fictionally set in the city.

So this was the big move weekend. I had been ferrying a few things up to my parents for them to store (important papers and the like), and some of my furniture is being used by my sister and brother-in-law in their new house (and had already been moved a few weeks prior). I had also sol…

Happy to share a unique adventure thanks to a brave friend who is an American citizen living in Dubai. The sole regret of the expedition was that my wife did not accompany me. I thoroughly appreciated her reservations, stemming both from current tensions between the US and Muslim culture …
