The Memorial Complex Jul 20, 2017
The memorial complex to the victims of prison camp from First World War consist from two monument: tall cross and Orthodox temple dedicated to Saint Apostles Peter and Paul.

The monument was erected in memory of the victims of the Doboj camp in the period 1915-17. At high mound is monument that can be reached by maintained trails.I find information that Doboj camp was the first concentration camp in Europe. It was established for Serbs in the Austro – Hungarian Empire during 1915 and 1916. (World War I).

The Austro-Hungarian death camp was establish in Doboj on 27th December 1915 (when the first truck with imprisoned Serbs arrived) and it last til 5 July 1917 when it was finally cancelled.

The officially is establish that trough this camp was trough 45791 Serbs (16673 men, 16996 women and children, but also and 12122 Serbian soldiers and the elderly from Herzegovina, Sarajevo and Romanija areas and border areas of Serbia and Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. All people have been imprisoned in inhumane conditions in area around where is present railway station in Doboj, and it estimate that over 12000 people were die here.

The memorial complex was build in 1938. It was destroy in 1941 by Ustasha forces.

It was rebuild in 1954 but instead of original cross on pillar is changed by poignant monument of fallen prisoner.

On 6th December 1993 the monument was returned to its original appearance.

The memorial complex is located at the end of interesting street where you could find many interesting buildings and all four biggest religious buildings and Doboj fortress.

From Doboj center lead two main roads to memorial complex. It takes about 30 minutes by foot.

Directions: This memorial complex is located at the northern exit of Doboj, right next to the main road Doboj - Banja Luka and the river Bosna.

Memorial cross Jul 20, 2017
Toll cross above church at the north entrance to Doboj are part of memorial complex.

The monument was build in 1938 (together with Orthodox church) in memory of the victims of the Doboj camp in the period 1915 till 1917.

There is huge inscription on Serbian Cyrillic about main information about the memorial ossuary.

There is also lyrics of famous Serbian poet Vojislav Ilic.

I will translate as best I can:

"By flowery fields fatherland of mine,

many sacred mounds are torn apart,

the grave to grave lies and testify publicly

that we perish gloriously"

At high mound is monument that can be reached by maintained trails but now in grass. From above you can enjoy in nice view on church its courtyard.

Directions: This fascinating memorial complex is located at the northern exit of Doboj, right next to the main road Doboj - Banja Luka and the river Bosna.

Memorial Church Jan 20, 2017
Serbian Orthodox church dedicated to Holly apostles Peter and Paul is part of memorial complex dedicated to victims of camp in WWI.

The church was built in the Serbian - Byzantine style, in the form of a cross, which was basically 16.90 x 16.90 meters.

Carving on the iconostasis was done by Russian Colonel Aleksandr Radkin, and icons in the church was painted by Aleksandra Seljanko, also Russian.

The project to build a church was made by architect Dušan Babić from Belgrade, Serbia in 1879, but construction work didn't began till 1931.

The first holly service in the church has been served on January 5 1936, even the church was consecrated on 18 September 1938 by Bishop Nectarios of Zvornik and Tuzla.
