Atmospheric and beautiful Aug 12, 2010
If you go north to Buckden on the B6160 and leave it to your left over a narrow, beautiful route to Hawes, the first village you reach is Hubberholme. The small church is immediately in view with a large and ancient Yew tree in the church yard.

Inside the church is a fine rood loft, claimed to be one of the only two in Yorkshire. The pews were carved by Thompson of Kilburn, North Yorkshire, often called Mousy because a mouse is carved into everything made by the firm. The firm still exists and its furniture and other wooden artefacts are highly valued.

This is one of those churches in which one does not need to be religious to feel an atmosphere of calm.
