Qaqortok's Red Church Jan 10, 2017
When you walk into town from the pier on the main road you can't miss it. It's the red church across a small bridge. It was built in 1832. Denomination is Lutheran. Don't miss the small memorial headstone to the left of the church memorializing early missionaries. The church itself has a beautiful brass door handle.

Once inside it is a simple white church, with the usual memorials to the seafaring nature of the area. The main memorial is for the Greenlandic ship, Hans Hedtoft, which despite being built not to sink, hit an iceberg on January 29, 1959 and sank with no one saved. The life saver displayed in this chuech was found in Iceland in October of the same year. Until 1973 it was the only church in the area.
