Church of Our Lady of Trsat
Church of Our Lady of Trsat Rijeka Reviews
Stunning Oct 09, 2011
This church is a rather important one in Rijeka. The site has been home to a church since the thirteenth century. The current one, and adjoining monastery, has been around since the fifteenth century and has been embellished on several occasions since then. The pope John Paul II also visited the church back in 2003.
Although the decoration and size of the church were nice enough, the one thing that struck me the most about the place was how well it was attended by local worshippers. A pew was barely visible when I was there on Sunday, and the entrance was rather full and crowded too. Towards the edge of the monastery, a service was being held outside and it was a rather large crowd.
Inside the monastery itself, there’s a wonderful altar to Mary and Christ which has many candle offerings. Really beautiful to see. Also, there is a chapel to the side which contains gifts (usually paintings of Mary or Christ) given to those who had their prayers answered after coming here.
A very nice little visit and worth coming to see if you are visiting the castle nearby.
