Chumphol Hotel May 02, 2013
Chumphol Hotel in NakhonRatchasima (Korat) is the place I found walking around the market. It is centrally located market, right next to the statue of Thao Suranaree (Yamo), which is the easiest place to find and to orient yourself with. I got in because they had internet (extra 30b per day), but there are cheaper options in town. I got into couple hotels that were from 150-180 baht, which is better than Chumphol’s, but 250 for single and 270 double room with fan, TV and good bathroom inside was good for me. Reception is in the tunnel that leads to the courtyard and few stores. On the corner of the building there is convenient store with drinks and snacks, and for food you can visit market (nothing is in English, but lady cooks are friendly and you will get some good food for sure)

Hotel’s staff is really useless, and it is very hard to get any information out if them. I tried couple of times to figure out transportation options and if they know for places around the hotel to eat, drink or simply to see, and they been just gathering together arguing and in the end nothing… It is amusing and funny if you have time to just stand there and look at them, but aside of that…I even had a map with dual explanation in Thai and English, and they looked like they are discovering new city.

Room was on the third floor, and it had all things in order. Bathroom nice and clean with hot water, TV with lots of channels (first time after long that I watched some TV…), two beds to choose from (they had only double for me) and a nice working fan. WiFi is a bit of an issue for it does not work that well on third floor. I could get it nicely in the hallway nest to the stairs, but not in the room. Hallways are not smoke free so be ready to smell some tobacco. I had very good night sleep in this place and if you are traveling with a friend it is good and cheap place to stay.

City is ugly with kind of universal ugly three-four story buildings everywhere you go. Looks like pretty modern and industrial city for Thailand, with lots of universities and schools. There are Wat-s everywhere and if you don’t see them, just look for the red, green and yellow gates at the allies that lead to the middle of the city blocks. That is sure sign that Wat is nested in the middle of the block.

A couple blocks away is a smaller bus station where you can take buses to cities in the area, but most of the buses go from large terminal 2 bus station. You can get there easily with the local transport, and I got into the local at the station close to hotel. It costs only 8b to go one way comparing to 40-60b with tuk tuk. I stayed only one day in this city, and that was enough for me.
