A sample of European Christmas in Philly Dec 17, 2013
The Christmas Village in Philadelphia is a nice Christmas attraction, and worth doing if you are in town during the holidays. Taking place at LOVE Park, which is on the other side of City Hall.

As the name would indicate, this attraction is a Christmas village from Germany, with its various shops, selling all kinds of goodies. Plus you can get to try out a Belgain waffle, gingerbread cookies, and all kinds of German food, like bratwurst!

The park has a Christmas tree with lights, with the LOVE sign in front of it, is a nice photo opp. Though, there will be people who may “volunteer” to take your photo for you. Just something to beware of. But the sight itself, especially at night, is nice to look at.

Another highlight, is the Kathe Wohlfahrt, which is a gift shop of Christmas ornaments. It is a nice place to see the different types of ornaments and other types of Christmas crafts, all coming from Germany. This place should be definitely be checked out, though photography is not allowed at all!

The Christmas Village is a nice diversion, mainly for Kathe Wohlfahrt, if you like Christmas stuff. Best time to visit, is around sunset, so you can see the Christmas lights on the tree.

The village closes up shop around 7 PM daily, and takes place for the whole month of December.

A Christmas Market in Philadelphia Dec 04, 2010
Philadelphia's Christmas Village is based on the German Christmas Market tradition. In fact, the Nuremberg Christkind comes over from Germany to open it. Numerous craft, holiday, and food and baked goods vendors are on hand with their wares, circling the City Hall plaza. Käthe Wohlfahrt , with a large selection of Christmas ornaments, smokers, and nutcrackers, has the largest presence. Music and dance performances take place on a performance stage. There is a carousel for children and in the center a Christmas Tree. A nice place to do some Christmas shopping when you are in Philadelphia during the holidays.

Admission to Christmas Village is free.

I did note that seating in the food tent is very limited. While there are many food vendors from which to sample roasted nuts, baked good, and German sausage platters, there are few places to sit inside on a cold afternoon.
