After driving through the night we finally arrived in Christchurch. I had been to Christchurch on my last trip to New Zealand but I was not sure I remembered too much about it. Chris had driven us down that night because Adam planned to buy a car for our road trip that morning in Christchurch (talk…

Loved Christchurch! Even if it's a big city, there are flowers and greens everywhere. Enjoyed my stay and walks I made through the city. Stayed in Jailhouse. Thsi was the a real prison in the past. They still got the rooms as they were used as prison. The whole building has been refurbished.

Not really wanting to leave the Thai food and sun behind, a long flight back to New Zealand (longer than 10 hours this time apparently). Touch down in Auckland before hopping on another plane to Christchurch and then another to Hokitika.

Today I explored Christchurch. The weather was warm when the sun came out, but was cold when the sun disappeared behind the clouds, so I was constantly putting on and taking off my jumper. The city is very 'British' - lots of churches and grand buildings, and gardens full of flowers.&nb…

It is absolutely unbelievable to think that I'm leaving tomorrow. Last minute dramas include being advised 24 hours before travel that our departure time from Auckland was incorrectly recorded and we're actually leaving at 4AM not 4pm (fortunately the a.m. is the next day, not earlier the sam…

August 25th - After a restless night sleep in our dorm as a man was snoring very loudly (not Neil!) we got up at 6am to catch our 8am ferry to Picton. The ferry was on time and took 3.5 hours and luckily Emma wasn't sea sick, hopefully last time was a one off! We then waited to ca…

After our stay in Akoroa, we headed back for our final few days in Christchurch.
We hadn't seen much of Christchurch on our quick overnight stopover on the way up to Kaikoura the week before, so we spent the first day wandering around, even though the rain was pretty heavy. It is a pre…

After the whales we drove to a palce called Akaroa on Banks Peninsula. Supposed to be beautiful but got there when it was dark and nothing was open. Eventually found a place to stay in a budget hotel. The next morning it was pouring with rain. A lot of things still shut. The boys asked in the touri…

First, the answer to a mystery. When I checked in my luggage at Sydney Airport it was a few kilos lighter than I remembered it being. When I opened my bag in Christchurch to get out my walking boots I discovered why. I have no idea where I’ve left them, but it meant a trip to the shops to buy new…
