Rio's Post Card. You must go up there to see the Statue and to have a view from the whole Rio de Janeiro city. The view is wonderful. You should go while visiting Rio de Janeiro.

We've all seen the picture of the huge statue overlooking the city but it is not until you are up there that you appreciate just how impressive it really is.

Early on a Saturday morning, we took the bus to Cosmo Vehlo (buses in Rio are frequent are so cheap) for R$2 and from there got on the train that takes you up the hill (for R$36) - there are beautiful views but only on one side of the train so get a seat on the RHS.

The ride is about 15 to 20 minutes and pleasant, once there officials directing the masses of people coming and going to once you're there - GOSH - to me, it felt like taking a few steps closer to heaven.

It's breathtaking, the views are inspiring but the massive work; rich with history and culture wraps a feeling of warmth around even the most indifferent of us.

There is not much else up there except a few gift stores and a restaurant but I could have sat there under God's arms all day :)

Sadly, this means that my blog entries on Travbuddy have also come to an e…Christ Redeemer statue. Accordingly, I was very excited to visit these places. Rio de Janeiro (Hee-oh) was a great chance for us to settle into the country, try and learn a few words in Portuguese, discover all about the Angolan slave trade in the 17th and 18th centuries but to mainly do bugger all and lie on Copacabana beach …Christ the Redeemer statue ( Corcovado ) stands and also the Sugar loaf mountain.   The latter we tried to get there for sunset but spent that in a steamy traffic jam and didn’t get up there until the sun had well and truly dropped below… WHAT A VIEW!
